Influence of aluminium powder aging on Directed Energy deposition

The use of aluminium alloys for Additive Manufacturing is high interest advanced geometries and lightweight applications. In Directed Energy Deposition, a powder stock processed with laser beam, which offers process flexibility. However, aging the feedstock during storage or after recycling remains fundamentally challenging because their sensitivity to oxidation porosity. order investigate these effects, AlSi10Mg batches were aged in different conditions by Deposition. results showed that does not significantly change particle size morphology, but it introduces more oxygen hydrogen powder. particles reduces beam absorbance increases wetting melt pool, affects track geometry. A 3.5 4.2 times higher porosity was observed material deposited from powder, are most likely pores caused increased content tensile properties parts built 19.0% lower yield strength, 14.2% ultimate strength 99.2% elongation, coarser microstructure
